Description
The Faculty of Law in Zagreb is one of the oldest faculties in Croatia. It is part of the University of Zagreb. The Faculty of Law was founded in 1776, when Marija Terezija established a Royal Academy of Science decree. About five thousand students are currently studying at the faculty.
After the dissolution of the Jesuit order, the Habsburg Queen Mary Theresa undertook extensive reforms in the education system. By the decree of 1776 he founded the Royal Academy of Sciences (lat. Regia scientiarum academia) as the highest school institution in Croatia. The Academy consisted of three faculties: Philosophical, Theological and Legal (Facultas iuridica). The Faculty of Law also included the former political-chamber study (founded in 1769 in Varaždin) for the education of Croatian administrative clerks.
Particularly valuable is the Library of the Faculty of Law as a valuable basis for scientific work. The Library of the Academy of Fine Arts had about 22,000 volumes in 1874. Today, as many as 200,000 volumes in this part of Europe, as in the richest and most well-equipped legal library, there are many rarity that cover all legal areas.
