The church of St. Blaise is a Baroque church in the Luza Square in Dubrovnik.
Baroque church of St. Blaise, patron of Dubrovnik, built on the site of an earlier Romanesque church (14th century), which survived the great earthquake of 1667, but it was destroyed by fire in 1706. The church was damaged in an earthquake in 1979, and in the war (1991 - 1992) was damaged score some touchdowns, the most powerful on the roof and the northern front.
The Grand Chamber of 26 February 1348 shall decide on the construction of the San. Blaise on the Plateau Communis, where the present-day (Baroque), in front of City Hall. From the decision to build a new church of St. Blaise on the above site still can be read Dubrovnik desire to gain independence from the Venetian authorities.
The church has a richly decorated facade with a portal, and in front of the wide stairs. The central area of the church topped by a dome. The main marble altar is a statue of St. Blaise plated with gold, the work of Dubrovnik masters from the 15th century. He is holding a model of the city before the earthquake of 1667. The statue survived the earthquake and fire in the church. Every year on February 3 in Dubrovnik celebrates Festival of St. Blaise.
