Description
The National and University Library at Marulićev trg, named after the father of Croatian literature, has grown into a synonymous library for generations of students and lovers of the written word.
The Royal University Library Building opened the door to the public on September 29, 1913; In the artistic sensibility of the Secession, decorated by the works of the most prominent Croatian artists in the urban design of the green horseshoe of Zagreb, on the extremely architectural basis of Rudolf Lubinskog, who made the eminent cultural shift of Zagreb in the first decade of the twentieth century. The large reading room, overlaid with a dome with a distinctive symbol of wisdom (sixteen owls) at the edges that closed to the students of the University Library on February 17, 1996, (p) remained one of the recognizable Zagreb paintings.
The first requirements for an independent building (we recall that the Library was located in Katarina Square, in the building of today's Upper Gymnasium, and since 1883 in the building of today's Rectorate) originated from the former manager of Ivan Kostrenčić (1874-1911). He created rules for the Library, looking at the organization of the Austrian.
