Description
Mantis (Mantis religiosa)
The mantis is one of the largest insects in Croatia. Larger specimens reach five or more inches. Mantises fly, but they are not spindle acrobatics or bee speed. Its wings are large and act like sails. In case of danger, it flies from one grass to another. The meadow is its habitat, although it can also be found in bushes. Mantises are lighter in color so they are easily spotted during flight. They are oblong in shape, and large tentacles with many senses stand out on their heads. They have big legs, and they often keep the front pair of legs together, as if praying - hence their name.
This one in the picture I processed digitally, flew to my balcony so we looked at each other for a while.
