Description
The monumental fortress, is situated at the western entrance to the city. Rises on a cliff 37 meters high. Lawrence made the all who are trying to attack the city, and threaten the security of the Republic, and especially Venice. Lawrence is a defender of freedom for centuries, and at her door carved the message around the world: "Non bene pro toto libertas venditur aura" ( "Freedom is not sold for all the gold in the world"). Today it is one of the most beautiful stages of the world, where he held a number of performances during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. One of the shows that take place is Shakespeare's "Hamlet".

There's such a sense of wonder over the time involved -- what was it like when the fortress was busy and used? Who stayed there? Human history speaks from its buildings. l/f/tw/p/g+
