Our grandmothers worshiped the Christmas cactus, plants of the genus Schlumbergera are part of the family Cactaceae (Cactus). They are epiphytes. The cactus is still a common decoration of our homes - especially at Christmas time when the flowers in red, purple, orange, yellow, white and pink are in full bloom.
The morphology of the Schlumberger is unique: its “twigs” consist of pseudo-evergreen species (articles) that are interconnected. Schlumbergera is native to tropical areas of South America, including Brazil. As a result, the Schlumberger loves moisture and does not tolerate cold.
