Description
At the time was not yet popular and everywhere available Christmas star, our grandmothers worshiped the Christmas cactus (Epiphyllum truncatum). It is still the cactus common decoration of our homes - especially at Christmas time when the lavishly blooming flowers in red, purple, orange, yellow, white and pink.
Is one of the articulated cacti originating from South America. Their leaves are changed to green and flat articles. Fast growth - new articulated leaves and buds sprout from the old article - the last in the series. It is easy to reproduce - each article has its radicle. It is enough to put in moist sand for twenty days to take root, so you can replant the flower pot with soil for cacti. Bloom in early spring and winter. For Christmas decoration buy them from the end of October, when the plants are full of buds.
My original photo, caught in Sesvete, Croatia, December 2016 .
