The town of Skradin, situated about fifteen kilometers from Sibenik, is one of the oldest Croatian cities.
Its history Skradin printed at the time of the Illyrians, was named at the time when these lands came under Roman rule. Thus, at the site of the Illyrian town developed antique Scardona, important traffic, commercial and administrative center.
Roman Scardona was completely destroyed and devastated, and after the arrival of a village have renewed the Croats, and the present name was mentioned in the 10th century. Its location near the Krka National Park makes it one of the most important Adriatic destinations in the field of nautical tourism.
Significant landscape Krka from Skradin Bridge to the mouth of protected since September 1968. Especially valuable parts of this area are the City of Skradin, Prokljansko lake, which is also the second largest lake in Croatia and the Sv. Joseph, which is connected to the Bay of Sibenik.
On Prokljan Lake there is a small island Stipanac, which in Roman times was connected to the mainland by an embankment. In Prokljan flows into rivers Guduča whose mouth is an important ornithological area. This locality is its morphology and genesis typical ria - merged river valley.
Krka Canyon was formed in the Tertiary, and after the last glaciation, the late Pleistocene, 10,000 years ago, the sea level rose by about 100 m to the current layout. The whole area from Skradin to the fortress St. Nicholas is the Krka river estuary, so called. ria.
The landscape is particularly beautiful and attractive and happy is photographed by those who love nature, healthy life, artists, scientists and guests. There are other significant locations in the county, such as rivers Krčić Channel ports in Sibenik, Gvozdenov - Kamenar, canyon Čikola etc. All these attractive landscapes belong to the natural heritage mentioned counties, which contributes significantly to the natural beauty of Dalmatia.
