Description
Bacina Lakes are a collection of lakes in Bacina the city of Ploce on the right (north-west) side of the mouth of the river Neretva in Dubrovnik-Neretva (Croatia).
The lakes are relatively small (138 hectares), but are among the most interesting phenomena in karst hydrography. Irregular in shape, which is particularly reflected in the bottom relief.
Consist of six and joined a separate lake: Vocus (or Ocusa) Trnicevo (or Crnicevo), Podgora, Sladinac, Vranjak (or Vrbnik), Vitanje and shallow lake (according to some sources the southern part of the lake Vitanje). The surface of the largest lake is Vocus. The deepest lake is Trnicevo with a depth of 34 meters. Vranjak at least from the lake and not only linked to other lakes.
The water in them is sweet and has a source that are linked directly to the sea. The lakes are crypto depressed, which means that the bottom of the lake below sea level. On the lakes are three small islands and two tunnels. The first connects the lake to the sea, so that excess winter water brought into the sea and prevent flooding.
