Description
Zantedeschia aethiopica (known as kala and arum lily) is a species from the family Araceae, native to southern Africa in Lesotho, South Africa and Swaziland.
It is a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant, evergreen where rains and temperatures are appropriate, deciduous where there is a dry season. Its favorite habitat is in streams and ponds or on the shores. It grows to a height of 0.6 - 1 m, with large clusters of broad dark green arrow-shaped leaves up to 45 cm (18 inches) long. The inflorescences are large and are produced in spring, summer and autumn, with a pure white spatula up to 25 cm (9.8 inches) and a yellow spadix up to 90 mm (3 1⁄2 in) long. Spadix gives a mild, sweet scent.
