Description
Ilica is one of the longest and oldest streets in Zagreb. It stretches from the main square in the east, across Crnomerec on the west of the city, to Vrapce and has more than 500.
Zagreb's main street Ilica is one of the oldest streets. The oldest archaeological findings, found near the veins is early bronze storage of Dezman's passage.
In the late 19th century and early 20th century, between the main square and the British market, many early buildings are gradually being removed and in their place are springing up new representative houses. Representative objects, which are then being built in Ilica, reaching up to three floors, mostly residential and commercial mercenaries. In addition to the ground floor, in business, the purpose of use and mezzanine areas, while for residential use mainly upper floors. The other is a specialty, open ground with a large framed and glass windows. In Ilica build the most former Croatian architects, such as: Kuna Waidmann, Josip pl. Vancas and Hnigsberg & Deutsch. It should be noted that then occur in Zagreb and world famous names, such as architects Hermann Helmer and Ferdinand Fellner.
