Description
The most famous Croatian Marian Shrine is Marija Bistrica, located 40 km northeast of the main Croatian town of Zagreb, on the northern hill of Medvednica and is mentioned for the first time in 1209.
The statue of the Mother of God of Bistrica originates in the 15th century and was in the church at the wine peak. Due to the dangers of the Turks, the statue of Our Lady was moved to the parish church in Marija Bistrica, and in 1650 it was caught in one window. The persecution of Zagreb bishop Martin Borković was found in 1684 and was placed in honorary place. Since then numerous pilgrimages have begun. In 1880, the fire damaged the whole church except the main altar with the statue of the Mother of God who remained completely undamaged. Pope Pius XI. Proclaimed the church of the Mother of God in the Bistrica Small Basilica (basilica minor).
The sanctuary was specially arranged and built for Pope John Paul II's visit on October 3, 1998, and his monument was erected at the foot of Calvary on May 18, 2003.

A BEAUTIFUL tribute to Mary and to the blue skies we all receive through her saying "yes."
