Description
Kula Norinska monumental fortress from the 16th century, by the Neretva River, opposite the mouth of the tributary Norin at which the tower is named, and right next to the main road at the entrance of Metkovic. The history of the Tower of Norin represents the history of the whole valley. Because of its monuments and historical memories, a village that was formed on the other side of the Neretva was called just after her - Kula Norinska, and today is the seat of the homonymous municipality. The importance of the tower by the fact that it was on the old coat of arms of the former municipality Opuzen, under which the administrative belonging, and today is the coat of arms of Opuzen. The tower was built as a guard of the Ottoman Empire from intrusions Venetian ships in the Neretva. The military purposes was used until the 19th century when it was turned into a windmill, and today is the valuable cultural monument, unfortunately quite neglected and overgrown with ivy.
