The Latin name of the genus Hemerocallis comes from the Greek word Hemera (day) and kallos (beauty), the plant blooms for only one day.
Day lily (Hemerocallis) is a genus of perennial plants of the family Xanthorrhoeaceae. There are over 60,000 registered cultivars of different colors and forms that forms large bushes. There are types of high-low 30-40 cm high and 1.5 m. The leaves are narrow and elongated. Most of them have fragrant flowers, the usual day lily has 3 petals and flowers he usually last only one day, although there are some cultivars that bloom at night. The appearance of the flower resembles a flower lily, although short-lived plant continuously produces new flowers throughout the summer. The flower can be single and multiple, white, yellow, orange, red and pink. There are solid colors and striped streaked varieties. Occurs naturally in the countries of Europe and Asia where it grows on the edges of forests in groups.
