Description
Iris, (Bogis, blue iris, iris tame, lat. Iris germanica; synonymous Iris croatica), a genus of plants from the class monocotyledons belonging to the family Iridaceae, together with the families of gladiolus (Gladiolus) and saffron (Crocus), permanent green with corms and tubers. Flowering time is from May through July.
From cylindrical, some servile and permanent rhizome grow narrow, upright and saber-toothed leaves. Flower stalks grow up to 1.50 meters high and usually have two or three flowers at the ends of the flower stems. The flowers consist of six in 2 rows lined flower leaves of which the outer and inner curved upright. Flower leaves are usually blue at the bottom with a yellow or whitish spots and covered with purple veins.
In 2000 he was named the Croatian national flower of the proposal of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
The name derives from the name of the Greek goddess long, vocal gods Iride (Gr. - Debt), and our name iris comes from the name of the supreme Slavic god thunder Perun and his wife, the goddess Iris.
