Description
Danube is, after the Volga, the second longest and the second richest in water in Europe and the longest river in the European Community.
The Danube flows into the Black Forest and still runs east through several major cities in Central and Eastern Europe (Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade), and after 2850 km, on the Black Sea, it forms a delta in Romania and Ukraine, which is located at World Heritage List of UNESCO. River now flows through or forms the border of ten states.
It enters the eastern Croatia, roughly follows its borders, passes Vukovar, and at Ilok leaving its borders and enters Serbia.
The Danube is the only large European river that flows from west to east. After the times of 2850 km river flows into the Black Sea.
Total along the Danube there are more than 300 species of birds. The river is located in one of Europe's most important migratory routes for birds, and in the Danube are important areas for wintering, nesting and resting many rare species such as the great owl, Alcedo atthis, white-tailed eagle, black stork, black kite and Falco rupicoloides. Parks Danube-Auen, Kopacki rit and the Danube Delta have been specially protected areas.
This is the environment, especially in winter, the habitat of a large number of animals, such as: gray goose, spinning tops, Goosander, batoglavica duck, waterfowl, wild duck. Here live some rare species like: klokota� eagle, osprey or Whooper swan.
Another important winter habitat of the Kopački Rit Nature Park, which covers an intact wetland area in the northwest Croatian where there are more than 260 species of birds, some of which are very rare as the white-tailed eagle.
In ornithological terms, the most important area of the Danube Delta, which is the main intersection of migratory routes in Europe. In this area, touch the European and Asian fauna. Here there are more than 300 species of birds, including the pelicans, cranes, spoonbills, birds of prey and rare redneck goose.
Typical Danube fish, some of which are endemic (the genus barbell) - (lat. Barbus), nose carp, dace, chub, bream, carp, dace, pike, perch, perch, eel, asp, salmon, sturgeon and catfish, as and gudgeon and bleak.
